Ken Bridges

Kenneth Harold Bridges
June 24, 1949 to October 11, 2002

He grew up in Detroit, MI, where his mother, and sister, Edwina Sutton, still reside. Ken truly loved his Mom and during his many business trips to the Midwest, he always made a special effort to visit with her at a nursing home in Detroit. Ken`s Mom is a victim of Alzheimers disease.

Above all, Ken was a family man. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jocelyn, and six special children: Aja 24, April 22, Justin 20, Joshua 16, Alana 15 and Alyssa 12. Ken wrote a small book in 1993 entitled `Succeeding in the World, Without Being of the World`. In it`s dedication to his loving wife he said `Any doubts that God loved me were forever removed when he allowed me to have you as my wife. What a blessing!`

To his parents, he wrote:

`You gave me direction, encouraged me to have goals, and made sure that I always had a plan. The best way for me to show you my thanks is to duplicate you with my children. I love you.`

Regarding his children, he went on in his dedication to state that:

`God has blessed Jocelyn and me with six children. While they clearly belong to Him, He has placed them with us to nurture and raise in this world. I have long felt the need to share some of the essential life points that God has taught me with our children. Since we never know how long we will be in the world, I felt that the best way to ensure that the children would have a chance to be exposed to these life points would be to commit them to paper. That way, when they are ready, the information will be available to them.`

Ken loved his children with uncommon passion and made it his mission to spend quality time with each of them. To him, each is uniquely gifted and he made it his duty to give each one the special attention that only he, could give.

Although the book was privately published and not widely distributed or read, Ken`s remarkable life story, is now published as an open book to the world as a result of his sudden ascent to ancestor status. Ken`s positive and absolutely infectious life force energies have been, and will continue to be, implanted in each and every person who has been fortunate enough to come in physical contact with him, or who may have heard the passionate sound of his voice in person during hundreds of public appearances, over radio airwaves, or on audio cassette tapes.

Ken attended Central High School, in Detroit, where despite his small physical stature at the time, he became the captain of the football team. For anyone who knows Ken, that honor is an early indication of Ken`s belief that `size does not matter`. After graduation in 1967, Ken attended Hillsdale College located in Hillsdale, MI and he received his undergraduate degree in 1971. Ken then matriculated at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business where he excelled academically. It was at that time that he and Al Wellington formed a friendship that was to become the foundation for the vehicle known as MATAH Network. MATAH Network is a people, a movement, and a business, dedicated to the spiritual, economic and social upliftment of people of African descent.

After receiving his MBA Marketing degree from Wharton in 1973, Ken was hired by Scott Paper Company as an executive in its marketing department. While working at Scott Paper, Ken became an Amway distributor. Ken built an organization that included more that 3,000 distributors from all across the country, most of whom were also people of African descent, and achieved the rank of Diamond Direct Distributor. It was during this time that he met, and married, his soul mate of 25 years, Jocelyn English.

When Ken made the decision to leave Scott Paper Company in 1980, and the lush salary and executive perks befitting his position as a smart young Black executive, to pursue his Amway business on a full time basis, everyone thought that he was literally insane. But Ken, and his wife Jocelyn had a vision. Although he would not have expressed it in these terms at the time, Ken believed that he could not achieve True Freedom working in corporate America. He felt the need to create his own business. Despite his success in the Amway organization, Ken turned his attentions away from that business in 1983 after unsuccessful attempts to get products produced by people of African descent into the Amway channel of distribution.

In 1983, Ken and his friend and business partner, Michael Jones formed one of the first grocery shopping delivery businesses in the nation.

In 1984, Ken and Al Wellington renewed their graduate school friendship and formed a business that many may recall today as P.O.W.E.R. The letters P.O.W.E.R. are an acronym for People Organizing and Working for Economic Rebirth. The company was formed as a direct sales organization with the goal of creating a channel of distribution of goods and services manufactured and produced by people of African descent. The company first enlisted the support of George Johnson, Owner of Johnson Products Company, who agreed to be the first manufacturer of a line of P.O.W.E.R. branded products. Then Minister Louis Farrakhan was approached and agreed to become the national spokesperson. For various reasons that became obvious in late 1985, it became clear to Ken and Al that the time for the creation of such a business had not arrived. However, Ken made a covenant with Al, and others who were involved with the creation of P.O.W.E.R., that they would come together again when the time was right.

During what became a ten year interlude, Ken and Bob Lott formed All America Film & Video, a video production company which served many private clients and which produced a documentary about noted activist and Pennsylvania State Rep. David P. Richardson Jr.

He also became part owner of Correction Connection, Inc., also known as CCI, and served as it`s national marketing manager and head of distributor relations. CCI`s principal product was Dick Gregory`s Bahamian Diet.

In October 1995, ten years after P.O.W.E.R., an event occurred that would bring Ken and Al back together: The Million Man March. As a result of research conducted at the march by Al`s company, the Wellington Group, a national marketing research firm, Ken and Al decided the time was right for the creation of the Black Channel of Distribution that they had envisioned ten years earlier. After working two years to refine the business model, they co-founded MATAH Network in 1997.

From its inception, MATAH Network was designed as a vehicle dedicated to the economic, spiritual and social upliftment of people of African descent. It was his fervent belief that people of African descent are the only ones who can change the terrible circumstances that exist in most of our communities. All of the resources to accomplish this seemingly impossible task already exist within our community, the skills, the knowledge, the creativity, the money.

Ken knew that the key ingredient that prevents people of African descent from taking control over their individual and collective destiny was, and continues to be, lack of knowledge of self. Ken dedicated his life to imparting this knowledge of self into each and every person of African descent within America and across the planet.

What will be Ken`s legacy? No less than a living testament will become manifest in the lives of all MATAH people as we go about uplifting people of African descent economically, socially and spiritually. Ken will be missed, but not forgotten.

Be joyful in this time of grief for the life force of our brother is not extinguished; rather, it has become the spark to ignite action within each of us. His vision was clear. We, The MATAH are the people who work to uplift our race As Ken would also say, Its time to get busy!

Inconvenient Truth

Chinweizu, Nigerian pan-African philosopher: The problem of the 21st century is the problem of Black Power – how to build it and enough of it to stop the extermination of Blacks that is now in progress, and to guarantee the survival, dignity and sovereignty of the Black world.
ASAR Marcus Mosiah Garvey: We need an African super-state to provide for and protect the well-being of African people.
ASAR Dr. John Henrik Clarke: All Africans living outside the Continent must be dedicated to the cause. It cannot be left to Africans who live in Africa. This should be a world mission of African people wherever they are on the face of the earth.
ASET Mama Gerri Price (Nana Akua Afria): The essence of African revolutionary activity is to destroy that which destroys us and to rebuild within an African context an African tradition.  . . We have survived because of our imagination, inventiveness and spiritual energy. . . The African revolution is a process, not an event. Our revolutionary responsibility is to let every word and action be political and filled with a meaning that adds to the revolutionary process. . . . The African revolution is like a sacred ritual, calling together the ancestors and the living, wherever we are on this earth.
Dr. Ani urged us to remember: When we choose to be born African, we promise to engage in victorious struggle to restore our peoplehood!!! Envision those victories: universal health care for all African people; revolutionary educational system; economic self-reliance; defense capability on every front – political, militarily, and otherwise.
IT CAN BE REAL IF WE MAKE IT REAL!!!

Will war ever bring peace?

Blacks people are still suffering globally under this system. We live shorter lives, have the highest school drop out rate, highest unemployment, highest prison population, children still go to sleep without food to eat and  people are still being put out in the streets, loosing homes. Wall Street is issuing out record bounciness, the banks got paid from a government pail out. Now the middle class are under attack by it very own selected/elected servants. While weapons of mass destruction are dropped on civilians and the Motherland Africa, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Columbia, Palestine, and the Native Americans got wiped out!

Will Osama Bin laden death solve any of the peoples issues? Do you think War will ever bring Peace?
No!
When will we wake up and see that we are all being used as pawns in these war games being played by the Puppet Masters and stop killing each other for the pleasure of a few? There is another way if we give peace a try. But we have to wake up those who are the Peace Makers so we can put a  stop  to the Slave Makers! Think! We don't need no more war!

Drug Kingpin or Political Prisoner? » Honolulu Weekly

REV. ROGER CHRISTIE / “We are fed, we are loved and we have a roof over our heads.” This mantra is a favorite espoused by the charismatic and popular Rev. Roger Christie, founder of The Hawaii Cannabis (THC) Ministry based in Hilo. After almost a year of federal detention, pending his July 6 trial for allegedly distributing marijuana, one wonders how Christie is coping without one of his daily essentials.
Only a criminal enterprise like this can get away with the murder of "Mother Earth" and lock up the peace-makers like Roger Christie myself and the hundreds of others who know that this plant is a gift form God for the "Healing of the Nations" rev 22-2. Yet lives are destroyed so that the truth does not rise up, but is will because good will triumph over evil, yes the Creator of all that is right will help us free Mother Earth of this evil energy that runs it now and who see no profit in peace, but 4peace2b this drug war shall end!

Why I Joined?

Economic empowerment is the now frontier for the Black power love movement. We have gained certain human/civil rights denied to our race through the laws of the country’s government. But in the process we have lost our business sense because we stopped thinking black, being black and buying black so all else has failed. So 40 years later we do not control the economics in our communities. If we do not control our economics then we do not control the community in which we live! We can not employ our own people especially our youth; and so we have to continue to depend on others to earn income to support our families.

We are not born criminals but through mass media we are projected as being the lowest of humans on the planet, our history and culture has been hidden behind enemy lines for so long that we have disconnected from the source from which we came. Our people and our youth do not want to commit crimes for food, clothes and shelter we have a right to quality education and medical care. This economic system say’s we don’t. The child who goes to sleep without food or water is due to us Black people not learning our economic system, we have bought in to capitalism, which is a lie was created from lies and stands on lies. Thurgood Marshall said hours after retiring from the US Supreme Court; “I’m still not free”.

I once did not know about “PowerNomics” (Dr. Claude Anderson) and how dept makes one a slave! Today though trial and error I have discovered the Black Business Builders Club and I am grateful for its creation. There is no shame in the name, it means what it says. There is nothing wrong with Black people recycling our dollars among us, taking care of our own and building business. But we have been programmed to believe that thinking, being and building black is racism, so we resist the notion that is makes so much sense!

Every other ethic group does it, recycles its money but not us, resulting in us being “depended on another race for our economic existence” (Marcus Garvey). If we do not control the economics in our community then we do not have any power in them, if we are going to rise up and claim what is rightfully ours we need to close ranks in unity of purpose to gain control of the world’s economy starting with us. The system of capitalism is wicked, it is evil, it cares nothing about you or me it never has and it never will! “It is a system based on greed and is profit driven; it is not the African way” (Walter Rodney). The Black Business Builders Club is based on “The Nguzo Saba” (Maulana Karenga). The BBB Club offers us a chance to network, make money, build black businesses and take control of our commUNITY!

This is not a racist note because I as an African I can not be one, it is a love letter to my people...

Here is another country that gives it people free medical, education, and housing, what is wrong with a country that provides the basic necessities of life? I say nothing, it is what government should provide. This country usa has tried to band certain people from receiving financial aid by passing a racist law. The health care law past here does not help those who do not have jobs and still allows the insurance companies to rob the people. Sting of Bay of Pigs Invasion Still Felt 50 Years Later - Yahoo! Emergency Actions Urged to Stop Attack on Africa

Emergency Actions Urged to Stop U.S.& Europe Attack on Libya

Atlanta, GA. The Atlanta community is urged to join in a nationwide rally against the U.S. military assault on Africa . The rally will be on April 2nd and 9th 2011 at the Richard Russell Federal Courthouse is calling for the immediate ceasefire in Libya . "Our people need to know that the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya , is an act of war on a sovereign nation and its people" stressed Baba Hekimah Kanyama, while shaping the 5-point-action plan in response to the invasion of Africa by the United States , European Union and members of the Arab League. The emergency meeting with Pan African and African centric leaders in Atlanta was chaired by Baba Mukasa 'Willie Ricks' Dada and called for an "immediate cessation of military assault" on Libya by air, land and sea as one of the highest priority responses to the grave situation affecting Africa.

Baba Mukasa is a Civil Rights and Pan African leader who served as part of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the All African People Revolutionary Party (AAPRP). He is currently an Executive member of the World African Diaspora Union (WADU). Both the Civil Rights and Pan African movements were catalysts for the freedom and rights of African people in the U.S. , Africa and elsewhere in the world. However, these rights have been trampled on by government legislative bills and military boots across the world.

In addition to the call for immediate cessation of the invasion of Africa, African Diaspora leaders in Georgia are also calling for the African Union to immediately implement the United States of Africa and the African High Command as a Pan African government and military command and control structure for the full integration of Africa . This fifty plus year delayed decision due to poor leadership for a United States of Africa and an African High Command has since cost Africa of its security. This would make Africa the second largest military behind China .

After slavery, colonialism and imperialism have led to the destruction of Africa, Africa needs a strong military to protect its economic, political and social advancement, especially to defend itself against clear, constant another imminent foreign threats. The United States of Africa and the African High Command were envisioned by great leaders like the late great Marcus Garvey, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, President Patrice Lumumba Emperor Haile Selassie and WEB Dubois to protect Africa from neo-colonialism and imperialism.

The third point-of-action is for Black communities to engage in continuous civil actions and mass demonstrations across the world against the military invasion of Africa by the same invaders who participated in the "Maafa" - the horrific enslavement of Black people over centuries and recently declared by the United Nations a crime against humanity. The first demonstration will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in Atlanta and will continue indefinitely. African Liberation Month in May was stated as a historic high priority for actions across the African world for mass mobilization to protect gains made by Black people since African enslavement.

Additionally, the African Diaspora community leaders are urging African Union leaders to eliminate all foreign military bases, including Africom and other European bases in Africa . Clearly, these military outposts of Europe are threats to the advancement of Africa becoming a self-determined and free continent. Finally, the African Diaspora community leaders are urging the African Union to implement plans for the African Diaspora to gain dual-citizenship as a way to strengthen the resolve of the Pan African Diaspora to protect and invest in a sustainable and empowered 21st century Africa .

The facilitator of the emergency meeting Mr. Obibini Kofi of Africa reminded others that the Libya crises was intentionally created to get rid of Qaddafi As well,.targeting Libya and other parts of Africa such as Ivory Coast by Europe and the United States are part of the 'new scramble' to continue robbing Africa's oil and other natural resources. The industrial power, prosperity and wealth of Europe are only due to the European colonization and enslavement of Africans. According to most estimate, Africa's wealth is now in urgent demand to stabilize Europe after its economic meltdown which started in the United States .

Without Africa's resources, Europe and the United States will continue to degenerate as powerful economic forces in the world. Since the 1960's, Africa's freedom struggles have sapped its former en-slavers from the direct exploitation of Africa . The Anglo-American economy is also suffering from its inability to compete with emerging economic powers such as China, Russia, India and Brazil The emergency meeting called for Africans everywhere to rise up as the cloud of 'whiteness' gathers to storm Africa with the ravenous raping only known to Black people as white power struggle to maintain their failing white supremacy on the back of Black genocide.
